Why I like narilka
I’ve “known,” in an internet sense, Nari since I discovered the internet. I always felt rather privileged, as though I were a part of her “inner circle” of internet friends, by having been granted access to some of her “lesser known” web sites.
Nari has often served, whether she’s known it or not, as something of a “muse” for me. I followed her photography avidly when she began shooting with a DSLR camera, and ended up investing in the same equipment, with which I’ve been very pleased. Nari has been kind enough to share photo and equipment tips on several occasions, which has helped with the learning curve considerably. She’s also quietly inspired me, through comments she’s made in her writing, to reactivate my own interests in writing and drawing.
Plus, “everything I know about the XBox 360” comes from Narilka!
I had the good fortune to meet Nari “in person” recently, and was pleased to see that the awkwardness I somewhat expected—I mean, there is a difference between “internet” and “In Real Life”—evaporated within moments. She’s much like I expected: somewhat quiet and reserved in initial outward appearance, but quick of wit and ready to engage in conversation both serious and silly. After only a bit of “so, in real life” type stuff was taken care of, being with Nari was like… well, just like what I thought hanging out with Nari would be like!
I also felt especially fortunate to be greeted so warmly and to be accepted in such a friendly and welcoming manner by her husband, a truly delightful person in his own right who is a perfect complement to and partner for Narilka.
I only wish we lived closer so I could join Nari and her circle of “cool people” more often!
