Why I like narilka

I’ve “known,” in an internet sense, Nari since I discovered the internet. I always felt rather privileged, as though I were a part of her “inner circle” of internet friends, by having been granted access to some of her “lesser known” web sites.

Nari has often served, whether she’s known it or not, as something of a “muse” for me. I followed her photography avidly when she began shooting with a DSLR camera, and ended up investing in the same equipment, with which I’ve been very pleased. Nari has been kind enough to share photo and equipment tips on several occasions, which has helped with the learning curve considerably. She’s also quietly inspired me, through comments she’s made in her writing, to reactivate my own interests in writing and drawing.

Plus, “everything I know about the XBox 360” comes from Narilka!

I had the good fortune to meet Nari “in person” recently, and was pleased to see that the awkwardness I somewhat expected—I mean, there is a difference between “internet” and “In Real Life”—evaporated within moments. She’s much like I expected: somewhat quiet and reserved in initial outward appearance, but quick of wit and ready to engage in conversation both serious and silly. After only a bit of “so, in real life” type stuff was taken care of, being with Nari was like… well, just like what I thought hanging out with Nari would be like!

I also felt especially fortunate to be greeted so warmly and to be accepted in such a friendly and welcoming manner by her husband, a truly delightful person in his own right who is a perfect complement to and partner for Narilka.

I only wish we lived closer so I could join Nari and her circle of “cool people” more often!

Why I like davidd

Mr. Davidd is just as cool in person as he is over the internet. Conversations flowed (which is sometimes not the case for first time RL meetings!), and a good time was had! Davidd is just all around awesome. :)

A story about davidd

This story would begin with “It was a dark and stormy night…” but it just so happens that it begins in Texas, therefore…

It was a hot and humid night, and a strange little woman named Fereshteh was sitting all by her lonesome outside, on her back porch, looking around a strange litle website called 43 Things. Everything was normal upon this night, except one thing… There was an entry by someone who was saddened by NaNoWriMo 2006!

Fereshteh gasped!! This cannot be happening, it is too terrible to even think upon, and yet…

She set to work immediately, writing a letter that would soon become infamous upon the internet for it’s highly intelligent and brilliantly written content (hey it’s my story). Thus began the friendship between Fereshteh and davidd, two lost yet amazingly deep souls who would come to be great friends.

Several fun-filled months passed, full of goals, cheers, accomplishment and sorrow; comments and replies and laughter and tears. Finally Fereshteh and davidd decided to meet for local food and awesome conversation, having agreed on 43 People that they would get along wonderfully.

All went well, until one day it happened. Fereshteh received a distress call: Their pre-agreed-upon jet, painstakingly making it’s way through loops and turns and spins in the blue Texas sky, spelling out the words:

DISTRESS CALL

Fereshteh ran to her room, threw on her .Super.Saturnian.Girl. outfit, jumped up into the sky, landed on the jet, and took off at Mach 99 towards Waialua, O’ahu… She hoped it was not too late.

She arrived 30 seconds after the distress signal had been sent, and found the scene unnerving, and to be honest, a touch bizarre. A large, plastic, rejected Ouija Board was attacking davidd!! This was not how it was supposed to happen!!

Fereshteh flew into a righteous rage, calling upon her Satrunian powers of Hormonal-angst, UV-ray-gun-eyes and the dreaded . . . hijab of DOOM.

The Ouija Board cowered in fear, yet still would not loosen it’s grip on davidd… So Fereshteh summoned up her hormonal angst Level 7 rage-power, stunned it in it’s tracks, blinded it with her Hijab of Doom’s amazing display of colour and then set it alight with her UV stare!!

The toy-turned-evil Ouija Board melted, davidd was safe, and they ran away from the stinky pool of liquid plastic that was quickly spreading across the ground (before either of them could get fined for littering).

Fereshteh stopped in a tourist shop (which had a public restroom), changed out of her .Super.Saturnian.Girl. outfit, and they went to hang out at Mokuleia beach and discuss their unfinished goals.

The Ouija Board’s evil plan had been foiled, and davidd was able to finish the year in peace (well, relative peace… Fereshteh tends to talk a lot).
